Autoresponders Make Online Business Life Easier

I am sure that regardless of how well you like to protect your email from marketers, you are most likely on at least one autoresponder list. Let say for example you are a member of Netflix. You are on a list! If you have ever submitted your name into a little box on a computer screen and hit enter, then again, you are on a list.

Perhaps you wanted to get a free report or access to a series of educational videos. You most likely entered your first name and an email address, or possibly only the email address. This submits your name into an autoresponder series that starts up the flow of emails that you receive over the course of the next days, weeks, months and even years if you stay as a member of the list.

The person whose list you belong to can now also send you instant email blasts as well as those that are on the "set it and forget it" list where they may promote a new product they developed or another one they are affiliated with where they will earn a commission on your purchase. Hopefully they are not slamming and spamming you with offers, but providing a mix of content and specials, depending on the type of list you signed up with of course.

Single vs Double Opt-in: In some cases, you might get a response to your email entry with an email which has the link you click on to take you to the video series, or perhaps it brings you right to the videos themselves when you enter your name. This would be an example of a single opt in. This can be good and bad. Good because your message gets sent out instantly. Bad because if you get a bunch of fake emails, these people do not ever see any future emails or messages you may have. The alternate of course is to get someone to complete a double opt in procedure.

This is where someone completes their email, then has to verify their "real" email by clicking on a link within an email that then double opts them in! This way, spam is reduced on both ends. The person has to agree to receive the messages and is therefore not being spammed, which is good, though the more steps you have in your recruiting that require people to go through, the less likely they might be to go through them. People want instant gratification, so providing some killer bonuses for the trouble they have to go through might be a wise choice when putting your autoresponder together

Unsubscribe: This is a crucial link to have in your autoresponder series. This always provides a subscriber with an "out" and prevents you from breaking CAN SPAM act guidelines.

Bounce/Blocked/Spam: When you check the analytics of your list, you want to make sure to see who is being bounced or blocked etc. If you keep sending emails to these people you could get in trouble for spamming, so knowing your list is important. If you can email them from a separate email asking them if they are having issues with receiving the emails or wish to unsubscribe, you can delete them from your back office. I have even found that some were not receiving emails due to a server issue and software support can help fixing this issue.

As you change your business, you do not totally need to change your whole autoresponder. Small changes to your links or content again save you time down the road where all new subscribers will get the corrected into, while you could send an update through an email blast whenever you want to the whole list or select members, depending on the service you use.

Services: There are many providers out there and they each provide their own bells and whistles. You should really check them all out to compare cost versus benefits. Some are stand alone like AWeber and iContact, while others include a whole suite of marketing products, like GVO. Depending on your budget and needs one might be more beneficial than another.

Anyway you look at it, autoresponder series are in your life. Whether you are on the giving end, receiving end or both, they have made life easier for millions of people around the globe. Next time you open an email or enter your name in a box, think about all of this in your plan to make it the most enjoyable process you can have.
